Brian E. Kruk, CIA, CCSA, CGAP, CISA, Director,
Quality Audit
Services for the Institute of Internal Auditors in Altamonte
Springs, Florida
Brian will discuss the process for performing QAR reviews,
discuss the alternatives (IIA, Public Accounting Firms, and peers)
for obtaining a QAR, and trends of these activities.
Brian E. Kruk, CIA, CCSA, CGAP, CISA, is the Director of
Quality Audit Services for the Institute of Internal Auditors in
Altamonte Springs, Florida. In his current position, Brian is
responsible for directing the Quality Audit Services (QAS) group at
the IIA. In addition to leading the group, Brian’s functions as a
QAS Field Representative, a QA team leader, and instructor to
promote the furthering of the Institute’s continuing mission of
disseminating the new quality assurance concepts and methodologies
brought forth in the Professional Practices Framework. To accomplish
its mission the QAS group provides three primary services for
members: Quality Assessments, Independent Validations of Self
Assessments, and Specialized Consulting Services.
Brian joined the Institute in February 2001 as a Field Services
Manager after spending over 20 years in the business world. He was
promoted to Manager – QAS and then took over the group as Director
in January 2005. His career has provided him with a wide range of
experiences including 10 years in internal auditing, seven years in
management level finance, and six years of executive level
management and consulting. He has held a variety of financial and
operational positions during his career, including: Senior Vice
President of Operations, Chief Financial Officer, Controller and
Corporate Auditor. Brian has a diverse background with experience in
the oil and gas, mining, hospitality, retail, real estate
development, manufacturing, and architectural design industries.

The Professional Practices Framework

Brian will discuss the current Professional Practices
Framework-which serves as a basis for assessing an internal audit
departments quality processes. All departments claiming to follow
the Standards, must have a quality review every five years starting
in 2007.

Panel discussion led by Jim Brigham, Deloitte & Touche – Risk
Management Practice

Jim Brigham is a Senior Manager in Deloitte & Touche’s
Enterprise Risk Management practice. He brings more than 29 years of
internal audit and accounting experience. He currently provides
internal control support to three national corporations. He also
participates on several Sarbanes-Oxley engagements.
Prior to Deloitte & Touche, Jim was Senior Director of Internal
Audit for Dollar General Corporation, a $7 billion retailer
headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Jim’s experience includes
leading internal audit and loss prevention functions for two
international and three national corporations. He has served on the
Internal Audit Boards of the National Retail Federation and the
Retail Industry Leaders Association. He is a past officer of the
Milwaukee and Nashville Chapters of the IIA and is an active member
of the Dallas Chapter. His professional certifications include CIA,
CPA and CCSA.
