Objectives: Business Intelligence (BI) solutions
have matured significantly in the past few years, helping
organizations leverage vast amounts of information to more
proactively improve operations. This session will provide a forum
for participants to discuss and share approaches to:
- BI applications becoming increasingly more relevant as
companies begin to cultivate a more Enterprise based approach to
Risk Management (ERM)
- The applications of “bite-sized” BI solutions that help
companies monitor and manage risk in a timely, more holistic
manner (from executive dashboards to more predictive analytics)
John Gutierrez is a principal in the advisory services department
in the Dallas office of Grant Thornton. He has more than 17
years of management consulting and industry experience in
accounting/financial/ operational business process redesign,
internal controls and complex program management.
John helps senior client executives achieve SOX compliance by
leading them through the transformation of their initial projects
into ongoing, sustainable compliance processes. His thought
leadership in this area enabled the completion of a comprehensive,
web-based solution, ComplianceSet®, which enables companies to
proactively save up to 20% to 40% on their annual Total Cost of
Compliance (TCC). In addition, he was the lead inventor for
three (3) patents granted for the system, method and computer
readable medium for accelerating the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance
process for management of a company.
John led the development of and is responsible for the firm’s
Business Intelligence (BI) solution group, focusing on the entire
life cycle of BI. He also has extensive program management
experience leading large/complex business transformation engagements
that included implementations of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
solutions to premier companies in many different industries.
He has consulted in a broad range of industries including hi-tech,
consumer business, manufacturing, health care and
telecommunications, from Fortune 50 enterprises to mid-market
companies.
David Hazels has more than 15 years of public accounting and
internal audit experience. He leads Grant Thornton’s Dallas
Advisory Services practice and oversees all consulting, risk
management and IT engagements for the practice.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton, David was a manager with Arthur
Andersen’s internal audit and risk consulting group. Prior to his
Big Five experience, David was an internal auditor with a Fortune
500 company, including serving as the department’s director.
He also spent two years with a regional public accounting firm.
Eric Krchnak is a senior manager in the advisory services
department in the Dallas office of Grant Thornton. He is a
seasoned professional with more than 10 years of information
technology and consulting experience in a variety of industries, as
well as, multi-country systems integrations.
Eric has led or participated in projects that range from
enterprise business intelligence solutions to large-scale systems
integration and business process redesign efforts. He has been
responsible for business development, client relationships and
project delivery.
Some of Eric’s more significant projects and works include:
- Project manager developing an enterprise business
intelligence/data warehouse solution for an international
climate control solutions provider
- Program manager creating an enterprise business intelligence
reporting solution for a national healthcare outpatient provider
- Project manager developing and enterprise reporting strategy
definition and implementation for an oil and gas exploration and
supply company
- Project manager for large-scale systems integration and
implementation, from planning / scoping and business
requirements definition to testing and rollout strategy and
execution
- Project manager creating an operational reporting strategy
definition and implementation for a national outpatient surgery
company

John A. Rogula, Associate Director, Aon Global Risk Consulting - ERM
Objectives: This session will provide a forum for
participants to discuss and share approaches to:
- Factors driving improvements in Risk Management approaches
- Key findings from Aon’s 2010 Global ERM Survey
- Example case
studies on risk awareness, risk improvement and risk governance
John Rogula is an Enterprise Risk Management expert focused on
delivery of high-value ERM framework capabilities for clients across
industries. John has worked with several Fortune 500 clients in
designing risk governance structures, designing and implementing
risk assessment processes, and developing solutions to best manage,
monitor and communicate risks across the organization. John has also
development models to assist clients with better understanding
specific supply chain risks. John is Aon’s ERM Healthcare Industry
Lead
Background:
Prior to joining Aon, John was a Principal with Oliver
Wyman’s Corporate Risk Consulting Practice (a Marsh McLennan
Company), and the Consumer Products Industry Lead. He directed
and trained global client teams in the design and implementation of
ERM processes and infrastructure, and managed measurement modeling
and mitigation strategy development to address specific risk
concerns.
Prior to joining Oliver Wyman in 2003, John was a Senior
Manager with Accenture. He was responsible for managing strategic
and IT projects across various industries, and led the development
of Program Management Offices for Accenture’s largest clients.

lead audit partner on over 100 public companies.

Registration Cancellation Policy
- Registration cutoff is 5:00 pm CST on the Friday before the
meeting.
- Payment must be received by the Friday before the meeting. Your registration is not
confirmed until paid. We strongly encourage you to pay via
PayPal to confirm your registration. If you are mailing a
check, the envelope must be post marked 8 days prior to the
meeting (i.e., on Thursday the week prior to the Friday
meeting) to ensure we receive your payment on time. If the
envelope is not post marked within the required timeframe and is
received late, you will be notified by email that a) the meeting
is sold out or b) an additional $10 late fee per person will be
assessed. Only registrations paid by PayPal will be
accepted on days just prior to the meeting.
- If you miss the deadline to register and space is available,
you can attend the meeting as a walk-in. Before coming to
the meeting, please check the website to see if we are accepting
walk-ins since our meetings tend to sell out.
- The deadline to cancel your registration is 5:00 pm CST on the
Friday before the meeting (unless otherwise noted) to receive a
refund. If you do not cancel by the deadline, you may send
a substitute in your place after notifying
reservations@dallasiia.org. The substitute will be
required to pay an additional $10 if they are not a member of

- If you
