eNews - December 2012
The
President’s Letter
Hello everyone! It is hard to believe that the
holidays is fast approaching! I really love this time
of the year because it represents quality time with family
and friends. Our next monthly meeting will be on
December 6th at Cityplace with the Dallas Association of
Government Accountants (AGA). The theme is Soft
Skills/Continuous Auditing which is typically one of our
most popular topic areas of the year so you really want to
register early.
The pre meeting will be led by Brian
Amend of Sunera who will be covering Active Listening and
Body Language. During the lunch meeting, Robert
Mainardi, Founder and President of Mainardi&Company, will
be talking about Dispelling the Myths about Continuous
Auditing. Robert will also be speaking at the post
meeting about Building Performance Excellence.
Dennis McGuffie, VP of Audit Services at Tenet Healthcare,
will serve as our CAE spotlight speaker during the lunch
meeting and will provide insight into the best practices,
organizational structure and types of audits performed by an
internal audit department within the healthcare industry. Our January 2013 meeting is scheduled for January
10th and will be a joint meeting with the North Texas ISACA
chapter. For those who prefer IT/Security
related topics, be sure and save that date. As we
approach the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, I would
encourage each of you to reflect on the blessings that you
and your family have been afforded. Take the time to
spread some hope and cheer to someone who needs it.
I’m ending my letter with an inspiring holiday quote from
Helen Keller, “The best and most beautiful things in the
world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with
the heart. Wishing you happiness.”
Sincerely,

Greg Estes

IIA Research Foundation
The IIA Research Foundation has published
Enterprise Risk Management: Achieving and Sustaining Success.
In today’s rapidly changing business climate, organizations are
looking for proactive ways to foresee risks. To be successful,
organizations must find ways to create new value and protect
existing value from being prematurely destroyed. Managing the
risks associated with any strategic plan is important to the
organization’s ongoing success. Internal auditors are an
integral part of an organization achieving and sustaining success.
They play an important role in all phases of Enterprise Risk
Management (ERM) implementation and can help validate and improve
ERM activities by aligning their ongoing audit activities with the
ERM objectives. This book provides a roadmap for all internal
auditors, regardless of their ERM expertise, to translate complex
ERM concepts into concrete guidance that internal auditors find
straightforward and practical.
The book can be ordered online at
