UT Dallas IIA Student Chapter – April 2021

After a relaxing Spring Break, Student Chapter members kicked off the final stretch of the semester by attending the 16th Annual Fraud Summit. Thank you very much to all the amazing speakers and sponsors for making this virtual event possible! An additional thank you goes to Professors Mauriello and Linsteadt for organizing this fantastic event.

The Student Chapter would also like to give a big shoutout to our program alumnus, Joshua Castille. Joshua is being recognized for his high score on the CIA exam. Click here to read about Joshua’s achievement.

Student Spotlight

Ashley Garber

Background: I grew up in Plano, Texas. Currently, I am pursuing my B.S. in Accounting with a minor in Spanish, and I plan to graduate in December 2021. During my time at UTD, I helped found a chapter of the College Diabetes Network, and I am currently serving as Treasurer. After finishing my undergraduate coursework, I will continue to attend UT Dallas and obtain my M.S. in Accounting with the IAEP and cybersecurity systems certificates. Additionally, I plan on pursuing the CIA, CPA, and CFE certifications. Outside of school, I enjoy spending my free time volunteering with Seven Loaves Food Pantry, the Salvation Army, and Operation Kindness.

Why Internal Audit?: I first became interested in internal audit because my goal is to specialize in forensics and fraud investigation. I believe a background in internal audit will provide me with the necessary foundation to be successful as a professional in this field. I was very excited to have the opportunity to join the UT Dallas IIA/ISACA/ACFE Student Chapter and UTD’s world-class internal audit program, both of which have allowed me to make valuable connections and learn more about the profession. As I have learned more about internal audit, I have discovered that my favorite parts about the field are the opportunities to solve new problems, to continuously be learning, and to help improve organizations.
