With the conclusion of the Spring 2019 semester, we would like to extend our thanks to the professionals from TD Ameritrade for coming to our last meeting and speaking to our student chapter members about their organization and their experiences with internal audit.
We would like to congratulate Mark Salamasick on his retirement as the Executive Director of Audit of The University of Texas System! Mark was the founding Director of the Center for Internal Auditing Excellence at The University of Texas at Dallas from August 2003 and led our organization until May 2015. We thank Mark for all his hard work and dedication to not only our program but to the internal audit profession as a whole. We wish him well and will never forget to “turnkey!
Message from Angie Wong, Student Chapter President:
“Our success as one of the top Centers for Internal Auditing Excellence would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the teaching assistants that are graduating this year. Caleb Braughton, Yimika Babayemi, and Ashley Mulvihill have contributed countless hours to the program to ensure that not only our students have the guidance they need to advance their careers and education, but also oversee several conferences, professional events, and volunteer opportunities for our chapter members. Thank you to Caleb, Yimika, and Ashley, and we wish them the best of luck as they enter the profession!”
“We would also like to acknowledge our student chapter members that are graduating. Thank you all for being a part of the student chapter and the program. We could not have done this year without you all. We also wish you the best as you go on and do big things in life!”

For our Student Spotlight Initiative, we would like to present Robin Pappachan. Robin has been an exceptional member of our student chapter, from passing his CISA, completing the Certificate in Cyber Security Systems, and working as an intern with Walmart, Inc! Please read below for his journey to becoming an IT auditor!
Robin Pappachan
Background: I’m privileged to belong to an Army Family, my father served in the Indian Armed Forces. Stationed by the Army at places all over India provided my family the opportunity of experiencing different cultures before we settled down in the small coastal state of Goa in Western India. I completed most of my schooling here. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Goa and an MBA in Marketing from Xavier’s Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore. Following my education, I found a great opportunity with an offer to work in Enterprise IT Solutions for Fujitsu. During my tenure at Fujitsu, I worked with enterprise class servers and storage, High Performance Computing clusters and virtual IT environments. Finally, in January of 2018, I joined UT Dallas to pursue my goal of securing a technology focused advanced degree. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in IT Management with the Cyber Security Systems Certificate and IAEP Program.
Why Internal Audit?: One of the first classes I enrolled in at UTD, was the IT Audit course offered by Professor Mauriello. The course introduced me to the fundamentals of the audit profession. During my internships within internal audit, I have had the opportunity to work with professionals across the organizational hierarchy, look at processes, systems, and application in a holistic manner and do work which has made a difference to the organization. With IT Audit, I can now couple my inquisitive mindset with my passion for technology and pursue a career which gives me an opportunity to challenge and develop myself with every new engagement.
Achievements:
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (Awaiting Certification)
- The University of Texas at Dallas Internal Auditing Education Partnership Scholarship
- Naveen Jindal School of Management Dean’s Excellence Scholarship
- The University of Texas at Dallas Certificate in Cyber Security Systems
Internal Audit Experience:
- EY: Risk Advisory Program (Scheduled Start September 2019)
- Walmart: Global Technology Audit Intern
