Risk Advisory Services Senior Associate I
Position Summary: As part of our Risk Advisory Services group, the Financial Institution Consulting team is looking for a professional to grow with our practice. The ideal individual would have audit experience and an interest in focusing on bank or financial services. The Risk Advisory Services Senior Associate I is primarily responsible for execution of audit procedures and completion of various engagement objectives within assigned areas and assists where necessary to complete the overall engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Associate I’s core competency will be demonstrated by the ability to fulfill their primary responsibilities as reflected in this job description, which include:
- Perform audit responsibilities on assigned areas, perform self-review and submit to the engagement team for review.
- Consistently perform and take ownership of assigned areas, small projects, and small engagements under the supervision of more experienced team members.
- Prepare work papers to effectively document work performed and reports issued.
- Keep supervisors apprised of assignment status and progress through timely communication.
- Able to establish trust with the client, maintain good working relationships and communicate effectively with client personnel at appropriate levels.
- Demonstrate an understanding and sense of urgency on budgets and deadlines, and be able to communicate challenges in meeting the objectives with senior team members.
- Demonstrate a more than basic understanding of internal controls within an institutions compliance management system and other critical financial and/or operational internal audit areas.
- Demonstrate a more than basic understanding of the financial institutions operations, and compliance systems.
- Work closely with all experienced team members to identify, understand and resolve non-complex issues encountered in performance of assignments through effective and timely communication.
- Begin to perform engagement planning in more complex internal audit financial or operational areas.
- Plan and budget engagements and assist in designing engagement-specific audit approach with assistance from experienced staff as necessary.
- Assist in the review of work papers prepared by Associates.
- Develop and assist in the training of Associates; create an environment that fosters learning.
- Begin to demonstrate the ability to assume project management responsibilities including the supervision of 2-6 staff on various projects and ensuring the engagement tasks and objectives are completed accurately and completely and that staff is appropriately utilized.
- Work with direct report manager to develop an appropriate plan of professional development, professional reading, and CPE, and take responsibility to ensure that plan is achieved.
- Understand and adhere to relevant ethical requirements of the AICPA as included in the Code of Professional Conduct of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy and the Texas Society of CPA’s in discharging their professional responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field,
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred
- CPA, CPA candidate, CIA or CIA candidate (CPA preferred)
- 2 – 4 + years or more of public accounting experience, industry or a combination of public accounting and industry experience (internal audit and/or accounting manager/controller responsibilities). Banking or Financial Services experience preferred.
- Possess sufficient technical skills to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
- More than basic understanding of FFIEC, CFBP, OCC, FDIC, FRB, and NCUA standards is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, GAAS, IIA standards, COSO internal control framework, and Sarbanes Oxley Act and the related requirements of Section 404.
- Advanced understanding of financial reports, transaction cycles, and business processes.
- Project Management experience, including supervising 2 to 6 or more individuals.
- Experienced with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Team orientation and strong interpersonal skills..
