Session 1:

Title: “Audit Communications Skills for Success”
Description: Communication is two-way and should be adapted based on the audience.
In this session, attendees will learn about:
- Critical communication techniques
- Project protocols to help successfully execute an entire audit plan, individual audits and special projects
- How to get buy-in and gain trust among high performing teams
Speaker Bio: Alyssa Martin, CPA, and partner-in-charge of Weaver’s advisory services, has years of experience in public accounting, including 17 years of internal control process risk management. Her practice emphasizes operational analysis, risk management, internal audit, quality assurance reviews, fraud prevention, IT audit, business management consulting, strategic planning and technology consulting for government entities and private/publicly-held companies. This involves management team collaboration on growth strategies, board of directors’ matters, and working with audit committees involving governance and with private equity firms to coordinate strengthening management activities while undertaking new requirements. She also has significant experience with management risk advisory, internal audits, IT advisory and ERP system implementations.

Title: “Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s (PCAOB) focus on Internal Control Deficiencies”
Description: This session provides an overview of PCAOB Alert #11 – “Considerations for Audits of Internal Control over Financial Reporting” and why internal auditors should understand the impact this document has on management’s internal control assessment.
In this session, attendees will learn about:
- Gain insight into why the PCAOB has an increasing focus on internal controls
- Understand where the internal control deficiencies have been occurring
- Identify who in your organization should be responsible for evaluating internal control deficiencies
- Recognize what areas has the PCAOB been commenting on in its reports
Speaker Bio: Jody Allred, CPA, CITP, CISA, CGMA and partner in Weaver’s risk adversary services, has more than 16 years of experience in public accounting, a deep background in both financial statement audit and advisory services, and a passion for client service. His current practice emphasis is on internal audit (both outsourced and co-sourced), enterprise risk management, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, business process improvement consulting, service organization controls reporting (SOC), and IT controls. As an active participant in numerous industry associations, Jody provides his clients with valuable insights and knowledge. He has also authored many articles for business publications. Jody is a past president and vice president of the Petroleum Accountants Society of Fort Worth (PAS FW). He has also served on the AICPA’s Information Management and Technology Assurance Executive Committee (IMTA), led the IMTA’s IT Audit Task Force and served on the IMTA’s SOC Task Force. Jody graduated with a master of accountancy and a bachelor of business administration in accounting from Abilene Christian University.
